Capturing Accounting Services at Iles Casey

Iles Casey - a leading accounting firm in Rotorua. They coincidentally are our landlords - hence our address - Suite 4, Pacioli House. (Pacioli is said to have founded modern accounting practice in Italy 1445-1509). Iles Casey have installed WORKLINX.

A brief story. Ken Iles had been watching Jim and I beavering away on computers - not quite sure what we were working on. His intrigue grew to the point where he asked me to present our system at a Partner Meeting. And as they say - the rest is history.

But it wasn't quite that straight forward. Ken, a specialist in strategic business planning, asked if this aspect could be added to the program prior to completion of Version 1. We obliged. WORKLINX includes a comprehensive strategic business planning model which is 'linked' to the operational database.

As a tenant and a casual observer of their practice for the past two years, I'm impressed with their emphasis on systems. I certainly hadn't seen the opportunity to 'sell' WORKLINX to the practice based on any need to implement better systems. And, that's not why Iles Casey has installed the program. Rather, it's because WORKLINX provides a fantastic database to record what they already know works very well.

The key to lower stress in any business is being able to produce work without getting lost in the process. A great deal of accounting is about procedures and processes and the more everyone works to the same procedures and processes the less frustrated everyone is. At Iles Casey, WORKLINX is being used to record what they already do - very well. Once that's completed - being realistic it's a continuum - the process of rationalising and improving consistencies will be a progressive exercise.
